My neighbors asked me to take care of their cat over the weekend on Saturday and I partially forgot. The cat can only eat half of its wet food* at a time without getting a tummy ache/possibly throwing up. I gave it half of its portion intending to come back and give it its other half later and I never did. The really bad thing is the cat has some meds it takes as well which I'd intended to bundle in with that second portion. I'm pretty bummed and a little worried even. I can't imagine the cat missing its meds for one day would hurt it all that much but I could imagine a company full of (((veterinary scientists))) making it so a medicated animal indeed would turn into a ticking time bomb without getting its hit.

*=the cat has a dry food dispenser that goes off every few hours I think. The cat was in no real danger of starving or becoming dehydrated

I texted the dude saying I wanted to meet up with him (jury's out on whether they noticed or not but I want to do the right thing and accept the potentially ruinous responsibility) a few hours ago and haven't gotten a response of any kind so my imagination is running wild with a lot of negative possibilities.

As long as you're giving it water at least, it should be ok. What a spoiled shit cat.

Don't say that about my cat friend.

You're exactly why I wouldn't trust anyone with my birds.

How do you forget to take care of a living being?

>>60841
I don't know if I want this but I'll take one anyway.

There's no good excuse for it, but incidentally a friend I hadn't seen in 3 years or so came into town unexpectedly and we hung out all night carelessly. My biggest regret is the medications because, if I'd done that in the first visit, the only issue would have been the cat getting like what-considering the first visit and the dry food dispenser-probably around 25% less food than usual tops which on its own isn't a calamitous one-off issue. As I recall the medication is thankfully for a condition that isn't going to no scope the thing if it misses months or even years of doses-but that's all besides the point.

The guy messaged me back in a manner that implies he and his girl may not know, but being the kind of guy I am I'm going to have to go confront him and confess my error regardless. Apart from being the right thing to do there's a chance they do know and are simply observing how I follow up with it. In either case though I have to give them the opportunity to decide whether they want to entrust me with the care of their pet in the future or not considering the circumstances.

Oh yeah, for context I've done this for them between a half dozen and dozen times in the past without issue (and I don't ask for money for doing it) so hopefully they'll be able to forgive this indiscretion. If there's going to be bad blood between us going forward I guess it is what it is, though I don't think it'll come to that.

You are over-thinking this. In their mind they're probably like "thank D-G some sucker is watching my dumb cat for free", and here you are being apologetic. You're the one doing them a huge favor LMAO! It's hard enough just to find some one you would trust enough to enter your home when you're gone. You've already saved them significant trouble. You were the one holding all the cards, and you're apologizing? You may think you're just being responsible, but acting guilty over nothing can cause people to treat you as guilty, even when it wouldn't have even crossed their mind otherwise.

Yeah I understand that, especially the last part. I'm trying to treat the situation with respect (if nothing else in case they're quietly aware and pissed lmoa) while also not being too histrionic or groveling because I too believe that doing that will absolutely have the opposite effect intended.

Have you never had a pet? Could've just texted "just letting you know I had an unexpected snag at work and forgot to feed him his second half later in the day" and be done with it. I sometimes take care of the next door neighbour's cat too when she's away. They are notoriously finicky eaters sometimes they refuse to eat or finish their food for almost a whole day, so this is nothing. Worrywart! Worrywart!

>keep cat in apartment forever
>sterilize it
>cat gets sick over the years
>spend $5000 dollars to turn it into a zombie
>make sure to humble-brag about the vet bill everywhere
>post selfies with dying zombie cat
>the cat can't even eat without extreme regulation or it vomits all over itself

There was literally a bitch posting make-up, snapchat filter selfies (with her dying pet in the background) in a thread about her dying animal on another website. I hope cat-man is better than this, but I expect nothing from humanity except cruelty anymore

4 rizzle tho, this. It's not like you left it to rot for a week. You're better off not saying anything if there's no indication they know about your dark, dark, monstrous secret.

Domesticated cats are BAD! They kill wildlife. Otherwise they are kind of cool I admit

I got two cats a few weeks ago specifically for murdering things. They just live outside here now with one job: kill
