what is that synthetic "retro" web larp them keeeds be dooeeng today
(akchually millenial weeb bisexuals trying to approach 11 year olds through all-encompassing roleplay gamification, to live out their chinese cartoon fantasies, hopefully, going to prison sooner than later)

like look at that shit, no one talked like that, this is some weird cargocult of what never was, or maybe they did and i don't remember, i recall some blingee autogenerated vomit in places

in early to mid 2000s i would be messing with a nokia or sony erricson camera phone with video recording and playback (w/ other kids trying to do 'cool' tricks with bikes and recording them, importing to pc and converting to avi or something like that), mp3s, a wap web browser and also j2me opera mini or opera mobile showing full web pages, even doing mum's online banking that way, on pc playing doom iii or half life 2 or cs:s or samp, running virtual machines, replacing crt boxes with larger lcd monitors, learning graphic design on pirated adobes and making them userbars or trying to make windows xp themes to somewhat resemble windows vista/royale themes, having replaced stacks of dvd rw+s (mostly pirated mp3s and family photos) with usb flash drives and external hdd (usb or firewire), using rss to read news and blogs, watching shit on early youtube, forum software had rounded corners and looked somewhat modern with glossy finish and tech-y and sans serif fonts so basically like nowadays, using skype every day for chats, audio and video calls, between playing online multiplayer games, working from home on print and web design odd jobs etc. for increasing network of people, looking at 3d accelerated compiz ubango linux v6ish spinnan cubes gnome 2 or kde tango icons stretchy windows with glossy orange borders and brown birb wallpaper desktop too

it all was there and is still there in some form

almost nothing but some random jank ms windows utilities would resemble windows 3.11 crusty w/ 16 color icons + dancing 3d baby gif vomit geocities shrines, although i wasn't on myspace where dem millenial keeeds and boomers probably littered their profiles with that sort of stuff

anyway it's weird when these things that are still in the present, avaiable in their original form, one search query away (older software, modern source ports, forums, torrents on rutracker etc), but they still insist on some kind of alt-reality larp

 No.70418

early to late 2000s internet is this shit + phbb forums + skype not crunchy crusty dial up windows 3.11 hipster 16 color graphics whatever

 No.70420

what irks me is that i am obviously getting older and not that people find older stuff cool, but instead of being objective, documenting it objectively, but build some alt reality sentimental fantasy shit out of it, and presenting it as a fact, quoting each other on it, while the real thing is still present and also in clear recollection of those who see it.

fuck these y2kfruttytootyaero niggas they dumb

you then you go to "neocities" (huh cool personal personalidzed websites of cool and interesting ppl being cool and interesting) and immeditately see some 30 year old stem creepdick having made a website to look like a 11 year old girl in 2002 made it but with autistic technical precision and awareness of an adult man.

sorry m8 don't want to join your "webring", no. closing the tab. never again.

that willingness to larp in virtual avatar mode shit is insane and really speaks of the technological, self-referential culture state known as "postmodernism" huh

Naw, I remember quite a few funky sites from back then. I used to like this donkey kong fansite with flash games that was like, modelled after dk's house. Every page was a different room.

You don't see stuff like that anymore.

Some were like this. At least as early as SomethingAwful. FYAD and BYOB had/have similar lameass posting like that. But I see that a lot too. Even for imageboards. I've been around long enough to see the people I once called newfags actually idolize some fanfic idea of what old imageboards were like and what it was. Maybe because life sucks now, but it seems everyone loves to romanticize some past they never experienced and always want to be in imitation of it. It's bizarre to me. I don't get it really.

 No.70440

there is another website called agora road that seems like this. i guess it is an even more pretentious extension of early-20s kids trying to look hip by liking banjo kazooie or something. i always thought 4chan users had been becoming progressively more of a caricature of the previous bunch as time went on, thinking things like proudly proclaiming oneself to be an oldfag is the proper attitude and showing off a stale screenshot of habbo hotel they downloaded from knowyourmeme grants them credibility, but it's funny to see zoomers blatantly larp like it's still web 2.0 on places like the op image and agora road. i bet a fucking ai could design a board like that and populate it with organic-sounding posts after being fed some actual websites from that era.

 No.70441

A lot of sites looked like that, maybe not that many forums. I miss text boards tbh.
> no one talked like that
No? Look through the 4chan archives and you will see how truly "cringe" you were.
>although i wasn't on myspace where dem millenial keeeds and boomers probably littered their profiles with that sort of stuff
Yes they did, and the difference now is "social media" sites no longer allow you to radically alter your profile. Even in the early days of youtube this was a thing and you would see a lot of very garish channel pages. Personal sites are dead and there is no room for personal expression on the corporate globohomo social media sites.

can't stand agora road. it's a bunch of lainchan trannies huffing each others farts over how vaporwave they can be. And their "dead internet theory" was stolen from wizardchan. Some wiz there was the first to come up with that theory and now it's gone mainstream

Textboards still exist. The only time they were ever super popular or active is 2ch from Japan, not sure what it's like now after Hiro and Watkins had their spat. Futaba is pretty slow too these days. Unless you count anontalk and those spinoffs like tinychan or something. That was a little resurgence that was newer, but even that's been a long time.

Forums are mostly dead these days too or I'm just really out of touch for what the popular ones are. I don't like them much after being on imageboards and textboards so long. Because I don't really get the clicks, I end up blending them all together due to never reading the name field out of habit, and they tend to have a very weird etiquette compared to places like this.

So it's not all bad they died out for the most part. It's just that as they die off nobody tends to make new ones and that leaves all these lameass social media sites where everything has to be sterile, advertiser friendly, etc. Anonymous posting is all but dead, though. Ya got 4chan as the major hub and then a huge drop off for all the others. And even 4chan isn't as popular as it once was.

Heh, yeah pretty much this though. I remember seeing myspace pages so crazy they make op's screenshot look tame.

https://dkvine.com/interactive/npc_forum/

This is a forum I used to use as a child. Bizarre it's still around. Anyways, it's always looked this garish and most sites from back then did. The sterile "coloured box" based design every site has now was popularized by wordpress. They're made from templates and designed to make the ads stand out against the background.

no, i hate this whining

you can make gitlab account with whatever username and email, you get around 15gb of storage and a pipeline to build and publish your very speciul statically rendered personal page if you must, and a domain is like 2-20$ and that's one of the many options. every cooooder dweeb soyman obsessed with shit nobody cares about has a personal site and a blog.

software and weird creative shit is more abundant than ever, anything that would be a big deal in 2005 is now just a 'whatever'

i can grab whatever top of the line asian mathematician programmed software toy demos and game engines and ai models of github i want for every platform, every other game has a foss sourceport, GOOD education materials on technical compooter subjects are abundant, many even optimized for adhd retards to absorb the information in shortest time possible with least amount of the preceding knowlege, software distribution and redundancy round it is an absolutely solved problem and i don't have to scrape around sketchy half abandoned pages for install.exe.zip files

but you nigas aint perceptive to it anymore because to novelty has worn off, finding a piece of random media does not feel like taking a woah stimulating 5x cups of caffeine drug anymore because you are not 13 anymore, you don't have to "discover" anything anymore, it's within a couple clicks in abundant amounts

>Heh, yeah pretty much this though. I remember seeing myspace pages so crazy they make op's screenshot look tame.

that explains why i straight up avoided garish trash gif 'customized' html/css myspace, youtube profiles, geocities, ucoz.com sites when they were around, feeling it was all pointless shovel-ware with very little substance, so i have limited memories of those things

on the web i probably was generally looking for pirated software, games and forums about games, porn, photoshop tutorials and forums about photoshop tutorials and le funny videos to obsess over (there was 'google video' briefly before youtube and shitty wmv embeds before that)

>software and weird creative shit is more abundant than ever
No it isn't and all too often you now need to join discords and beg trannies for links. When it comes to romhacks or mods, it has become rampant. For example, I am still incredulous that someone allegedly made a enhanced version of IWDII, with bug fixes and changes to game balance, but they expect you to go to a discord and beg a tranny going by "Semitic goddess" to gain access to it.

>i can grab whatever top of the line asian mathematician programmed software toy demos and game engines and ai models of github i want for every platform, every other game has a foss sourceport, GOOD education materials on technical compooter subjects are abundant, many even optimized for adhd retards to absorb the information in shortest time possible with least amount of the preceding knowlege, software distribution and redundancy round it is an absolutely solved problem and i don't have to scrape around sketchy half abandoned pages for install.exe.zip files

I could do that with substantially less effort in 2005, with multiple megaupload or TPB links on the front page of google ready for whatever I asked. Now I'm like an apocalyptic scavenger, getting bullied by tranny biker gangs and the private tracker bum battalions out in the desolate internet wasteland.

Don't mean to hijack your thread but I don't think I understand zoomers that well. I've had a 4TB hdd and a 250gb sdd (hdd for most things and sdd for the OS and some video game installs where I read it performs better like that) for at least 5 years and my torrent folder is 3tb and I have space for my favourite films in 20-30gb files (though they don't look much better than the 8gb 1080p blurays on my 23 inch monitor) plus a whole bunch of new films, if I ever need space I just delete the films I won't rewatch or the new films I'm not interested enough in. Streaming seems so dumb. And when the quality is bad its just gross. I really have to rack my head to understand why people watch telesync'd movies when they first come out in cinemas.
