You have to approach it from the perspective of raising animals. Inbreeding done correctly is called "linebreeding" and can eliminate negative dominant traits and prop up recessive traits. The redheaded populations in europe for example are almost certainly the result of inbreeding in ancient times, since red hair is recessive. You can eliminate genetic diseases and breed a lot of positive traits through the power of incest.
