Deaths from a new strain of COVID-19 FLiRT have been recorded in Ukraine. This was reported by Ruslan Savchuk, director-general of the Ivano-Frankivsk regional centre for disease control and prevention of the country's health protection ministry, on 7 August 2024.

It is reported that the 80-year-old woman pensioner was hospitalised in one of the hospitals in Ivano-Frankivsk with high fever in serious condition. After her condition stabilised, the patient was transferred to the therapeutic department. A few days later she died.

‘Medics provided all possible help, but COVID-19 took her life,’ Savchuk was quoted as saying by Ukrainian TV channel Public.

According to him, in the regions, the FLiRT subtype was confirmed only in the deceased woman pensioner.
