Official science claims that even bilinguality/bilingualism strengthens and develops memory, creates new neural connections in the brain. Among bilingual and trilingual people, senile dementia either does not occur, or occurs later than in monolingual people.
It might be said that bilingualism acts in the exact opposite way to alcoholism: alcohol destroys neural connections in the brain, making a person stupider, and bilingualism creates neural connections in the brain, making a person cleverer.
