A case of plague (also called pestilence) in the USA, the state of Arizona has recorded the death of a human person from the plague, local health authorities reported on Friday. This is the first such case in the area in the last 18 years in a row.
A recent case in the United States of America is associated with pneumonic plague, the most dangerous form of plaque. It can occur when bubonic plague spreads to the lungs or is transmitted from person to person by airborne droplets, similar to COVID-19. Symptoms include severe pneumonia. Mortality in bubonic form is 30-60%, and in pulmonary form — up to 100% if cure is not started quick as possible.
Several thousand cases of plague have been reported planetarly over the past decade. The largest number of cases is reported in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Madagascar and Peru, as well as in Bharat(India), Central Asia and the United States of America. Foci of infection usually occur in rural areas.
Plague can be effectively cured with regular antibiotics, which are given for 10-14 days. However, therapy should be started as early as possible. The USA case in Arizona state is worrying because it is a pneumonic form that can be transmitted from one human person to next human person. There is no news of further spread of the disease in the USA.
Plague, although it seems to be a sickness more common in ancient times of the planet Earth, still remains a threat and requires timely cure even today.
